Many restaurants serve up huge portions of unhealthy comfort food that is laden with fat, salt, and often even sugar.

The problem is so many of us eat what’s put in front of us.

INTELLIGENT EATING OUT – THE HALF RULE

If you know the portions are too big to be healthy and the restaurant doesn’t offer smaller portions, simply ask them to dish half your meal as a takeaway.

You’ll get a small portion that you can enjoy and have room for coffee without overeating

The second half? Keep it for later, or even better make a homeless person’s day by offering them a welcome hot meal.

THE STARTERS OPTION

Another great trick — especially if you’re a foodie — is to stick to the starter menu.

Order a couple of starters and eat them as your meal.

They’re often particularly tasty treats, and you’ll enjoy a light meal.
